Tuesday June 13
Hello all - I'm so glad to have figured out how to allow comments! Thanks for all of you that let us know you are following along.
I attended the National and International Concerns legislative hearing this morning, where the Millenium Development Goals were discussed. The youth representatives from about 12 nations were there and testified. It was so wonderful that I wanted to whip out my check book and give 0.7% right then and there. I do hope to bring some of that enthusiasm back home to our Diocese, where we are beginning to look outside of ourselves to to the world that needs us so much.
Next we had the first of the daily Eucharists and Spiritual Reflections. President Werner celebrated and PB Griswald preached. I'll post a separate entry tonight about that. And then...my first legislative session! The hall is so large and there are so many people that I just cannot describe the feeling. We went through all the ceremonial resolutions (orders of the day, receiving a message from the House of Bishops, etc) and lots of training on how to use the new voting machines. Each delegate has a remote at the table, and all voting (except when voice vote is appropriate) is done electronically. Cool stuff. To practice, the deputies voted on whether the official food of the ECUSA should be cucumber sandwiches - voted down, and what the three favorite hymns from the hymnal are. Can't remember which ones, but that vote was funny because about 1/3 of the deputies filed invalid ballots, meaning they didn't know how to use them!! We had deputies standing up and saying no one could read the screens up front, and why didn't each deputation have a waste basket, etc. I have some pictures to post, which I will do this evening.
So, now off to the second legislative session, where we will begin to get into the meaty issues. Of course, the Convention's response to the Windsor Report is a biggie, but legislative hearings don't start on that one until later tonight.
More later...

I've heard a lot about "milleminu goals" both here & at ENS but sofar no-one has said what the "eight planks" are. Please fill us in in a little more detail.
